About BOTOX
Although BOTOX is most commonly thought of as a cosmetic treatment that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it actually has many medical uses. The Eye Health Vision Centers offer BOTOX injections to treat several common eye problems. By temporarily relaxing overactive eye muscles, BOTOX can improve eyelid twitching and spams, excessive blinking, and blurred vision. If you or your child is diagnosed with strabismus, like crossed eyes (esotropia), wall eyes (exotropia), hypertropia, or hypotropia, BOTOX may be a treatment option.
To learn more about BOTOX for vision problems, schedule a consultation at one of our locations in Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Fall River, and Taunton, MA or Middletown, RI. We have helped a great number of our greater South Coast-area patients with this effective treatment.
Best Candidates
One specific eye problem that we often treat with BOTOX is strabismus. This eye condition may cause the eyes to look inward (cross-eyed), outward (wall-eyed), upward (hypertropia), or downward (hypotropia). Strabismus may occasionally cause vision loss, double vision, or depth perception difficulties. BOTOX works to correct eye movement by targeting and temporarily relaxing two distinct muscles, allowing the gaze to remain straight and work together instead of against one another. A second eye condition that is commonly treated with BOTOX is blepharospasm. This eye condition will cause twitching and involuntary spams, as well as excessive blinking. Patients should be 12 years of age or older to use BOTOX for treatment.

What to Expect
Your BOTOX injection will be administered by a member of the Eye Health Vision Centers team at one of our greater South Coast area offices, following an eye examination, consultation, and diagnosis. Using a very fine needle, the BOTOX is injected carefully into the muscles responsible for the eye condition. The procedure does not cause great discomfort and results are typically noticed in the first week after treatment. Your symptoms should be drastically reduced.
Follow-Up
Following your injections, your treatment areas may be red or swollen. The symptoms will subside naturally in the coming days as results increase. You will see relief from your eye condition for up to four months. While our primary goal at Eye Health Vision Centers is to improve your vision, you may also see an improvement to fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes. A member of our team will help you decide how often to schedule your follow-up injections to help maintain relief of your symptoms. Contact us if you believe you are experiencing side effects from your BOTOX treatment. Side effects are not typically severe but could include dry eye or an allergic reaction.
