Meet Dr. Richard
Dr. Alyse Richard specializes in general ophthalmology and medical retina disease management. She is a board-certified fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Medical Association, American Society of Retina Specialists, International Society of Medical Retina Specialists, Women in Retina and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. She grew up in Rochester, New York and attended Hobart and William Smith Colleges where she graduated Magna cum laude with a degree in Biochemistry. She then went on to Albany Medical College where she received many honors including acceptance into the National Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She went back to Western New York to complete her residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry at the Flaum Eye Institute. She then completed her medical retina fellowship at New England Eye Center, Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts training under many leaders in the field where she published multiple papers and presented at national meetings on macular degeneration, inherited retinal diseases, electroretinogram testing, macular dystrophies and other retinopathies. Dr. Richard currently sees patients at Eye Health Vision Centers in Dartmouth, Fall River and Taunton offices.
Areas of Expertise
Dr. Richard performs compressive eye exams and treatment of medical eye diseases including cataracts, glaucoma and eye surface issues. As a medical retina specialist, Dr. Richard’s areas of expertise include diabetes-related retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, retinal detachment and tears, inherited retinal diseases and macular edema. She performs intraocular injections, lasers and repairs of retinal detachments and tears. She also performs cataract extraction and intraocular lens placement using clear corneal incision technique and topical anesthesia.
Education
Dr. Richard attended college at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and graduated with a BS in Biochemistry. She then obtained her doctor of medicine degree at Albany Medical College in Albany, New York and was inducted into the national medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, Theta Chapter upon graduation. She completed her ophthalmology residency at University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, Flaum Eye Institute and followed with a Medical Retina fellowship at New England Eye Center, Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA.
